So You Need a New Cycling Bicycle?

There is no shortage of reasons for choosing to cycle. Some folks are having a hard time keeping up with the rising cost of gasoline and maintenance bills, so they choose to ride a bike. Some decide to cycle because they want to have less of an impact on the environment when traveling.

And others still are riding simply because they love to ride. Whatever your reason for going cycle shopping there are some definite criteria that you need to think about before you make your choice. Bicycles should not just be chosen because of their looks or their brand name. Here are some helpful tips that you can use to help you decide which bicycle you should buy.

It goes without saying that choosing the correctly sized bike is of utmost importance. To do this, you will need to measure your inseam. This is accomplished by measuring from your groin to your foot down the inside of your leg. Ideally you should be able to place both feet on the ground while on your bike. This is mainly for safety and will allow you to use your feet to stop the bike without the brakes if needed.

Do you require more features on the new bike? If you are using your bicycle as your primary form of transportation you might want to consider whether you will need things like baskets to help you transport goods. Could a child need a ride on your bike with you? Then you have to choose a bike that will allow for a child seat attachment. Have you ever considered pulling anything behind your bike? Choose a bike that can support the weight of a trailer, if this is something you’ll do.

The number of gears you’ll use will also affect your choice. If you plan to ride in rocky or mountainous areas, you’ll need more gears than riding on flat land. The number of gears doesn’t make one bike better than another. In actuality, you may never use all the gears. Don’t spend money on something you won’t use. Ensure you have enough gears to handle the situations in which you will be riding, especially if you bike will be your main mode of transport. There are many different factors to take into account when finding the right bicycle. Is this a bike you are going to be riding every single day or is it a bike you are only going to ride every now and them? What seat height gives you the most comfortable ride? Do you feel more at ease with your feet just above the ground as you sit on the seat, or would you see this rather that your feet sit flat when you are at rest? You will want to answer all of these important questions, as you make your bicycle selection.
